Fabrication
What we do
JB Engineering (Hatton) Ltd is a prime contractor who specialises in the welding and fabrication of products and their installation.
We have the skills and equipment to work with heavy-duty hardened steel down to light-gauge stainless steel. This flexibility allows us to work in a wide variety of industrial sectors, including defence, food, transport, mining, water treatment and petrochemical.
‘The majority of our work is bespoke and has been designed to meet individual customer requirements.’
The fabrication department is led by our engineering director, who is supported by lead fabrication roles, fabricators, semi-skilled and labourers.
JB Engineering welding processes include M.I.G. – metal inert gas; T.I.G. – tungsten inert gas; M.M.A. – manual metal arc; and M.A.G. – metal active gas.
A growing area of our work is ‘reverse engineering’ – using detailed drawings, sketches or just a description to put ideas into practice.
Materials
JB Engineering (Hatton) Ltd has positive relationships with its suppliers who are regularly audited for quality, compliance and price. We support local and Midlands- based micro and small business suppliers.
Our tradespeople work hard on a day-to-day basis, to reach the level of expectancy our industry requires.
With this in mind, we know a great deal about fabricating and would love to share our knowledge with you.
If you are unsure about the material you require, please get in touch and ask.

Mild steel is a low-carbon steel with a carbon content of between 0.05-0.25 percent. This enables the steel to be easily cut, machined, and formed into shapes. This makes it the most in-demand material.
Cast iron is similar to mild steel, however due to its extra carbon it is easier to mold into different shapes.
The carbon range in cast iron generally ranges from 2-4%, which makes it significantly higher than mild steel.
Stainless steel has around 200 alloys of steel. It has a high amount of chromium, making it strong and corrosion resistant.
Aluminium is used to make hard and durable products. It has many different properties, for example: its lightweight, low density, not magnetizable, and lastly it is easy to mold into complex shapes.
The major difference between Steel & Aluminium is it is a better conductor of heat.
The Manufacturing Process
The customer will receive their requested quote. The processing time may vary depending on the size and complexity of the quote.
Our creative CAD/CAM technicians draft electronic drawings, this step is extremely important and ensures the desired order expectations.
.
The customer places their order with our engineering team, this step involves thoroughly checking job order requirements, and required material orders are placed, with production timetables finalised.
The process of manufacturing the customer order is completed, using one or more of our individual production processes. These processes can cover laser profiling, press braking and welding all completed by our skilled tradespeople.
We always carry out multiple quality checks throughout the production process, with one final check before delivery. This is to ensure the product fulfills customer expectations and reduces the occurrence of faults which could impact our job profit and loss.
Delivery, site installation and ongoing maintenance are all part of the quality service we provide. Our teams are always available to follow up on customer orders and help with any post-delivery issues to fulfill customer expectations.
Our Fabrication Services
Stainless
We have made a variety of stainless fabrications large and small. We adhere to a very strict non-contamination process during fabrication. Examples of projects include lockers, screws, tables, tags, impeller blades, trays, and pipework.
Platforms, ladders & stairways
Platforms, ladders and stairways fabrication within the industrial sector form part of our ‘five a day’. We are CE accredited and fully versed with Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association (EEMUA) guidelines.
Ducting
We can accommodate small or large industrial ducting needs. Typically we make ducting for heavy industry, which covers the transportation of materials such as stone, plaster or organic animal feed.
Guarding, covers, skirting & sheeting
Inside every business, health and safety performs an important role. That’s why, our machine guarding and covers are a vital safety measure for the factory environment. We also make cover skirts and sheeting.
Structural
Our rigid structural fabrications cover support frames and beams. Our external contractors provide weight testing if required.
Lifting jibs & beams
We have made a variety of Lifting jibs beams, forklift cradle attachments, load tracks and jib arms. All lifting gear is routinely weight tested and certification is issued to the customer.
Wash Plant Screws
We have experience in both wash plant screws and cover fabrications, we also offer an overhaul service; if it proves to be cost-effective.
Pipe Work
Over the last few years, we have carried out a number of structural pipe installations, from conveying gas to working with fluids. However, we do not perform the testing process. That is something our external contractors provide.
Heavy industrial racking
We hold valuable experience in heavy duty industrial racking, design elements such as the load utilization and bearing requirements are covered at the quoting stage.
Miscellaneous
Over our trading years we have completed a variety of bespoke fabrication projects. Some examples include hoppers, display stands, reservoirs, top hats, benches, bins, cabinets, bag-filling stations and material-handling classifiers.
Overhaul / bearings
Overhauling machinery is an option that we offer. However, this direction is only taken if it is cost-effective and practical. For example, we increased productivity by 70% for one local concrete production company. We can also fit and maintain machine bearings.
Projects
JB Engineering (Hatton) Ltd has completed a collection of fabrication projects. These projects include screw conveyors, access platforms, dust enclosures and dust samplers. Click the link below to check them out:
