Blow Line

Blow Line

Project Description

A bespoke blow line system was designed to efficiently convey powdered materials across a processing facility to multiple mixing points. The solution incorporated optimised pipe routing with long-radius bends and integrated aeration to maintain consistent product flow and minimise blockages. Electrically actuated diverters were installed to provide controlled distribution of materials, while all components were engineered and fabricated to withstand abrasive operating conditions. The project was delivered end-to-end, including fabrication, quality inspection, and on-site installation, ensuring a reliable, leakfree system aligned with the client’s operational requirements.

Scope

The project scope was to manufacture and install a new pipeline and diverters to provide powdered products to a range of mixing equipment within a material processing factory. The new pipeline was designed with product flow in mind to minimise blockages, especially in corners and changes of direction. This was done by using long sweeping bends and additional aeration provided by a 1” compressed air line. Diverters were to be fitted to control where materials are sent through an electrically controlled butterfly valve. All parts were specified to withstand the abrasive nature of the flowing product.

The customer’s project scope was established with the support and guidance from our JB Engineering site installation team, which has the required skills and experience in structural fabrication and installation.

Process

  • Flanges, pipes, pipe bends and diverters were sourced from reputable suppliers.
  • Pipes were cut to required length in the workshop using a bandsaw.
  • Connecting flanges were MIG welded to the ends both inside and out to prevent product leakage.
  • Flanges were checked for squareness and welds were 100% visually inspected for defects.
  • The pipework was then cleaned and painted, ready for installation.
  • The pipe work was hoisted into position using on site gantry cranes, chain blocks and manual handling techniques.
  • The diverters were installed to existing blow lines. Fabricated sections and supports were placed  together. Checking was done for a good mating surface between the flanges.
  • Bolts were torqued to spec, and the line was tested for leaks.

Challenge

A key challenge encountered in this project was the route in which the additional blow line takes to avoid existing machinery and to avoid blocking walkways.

Solution

A sufficient route was determined through extensive site surveying and communication with the customer to come up with the best possible solution to avoid blocking access/egress without compromising the flow and performance of the pipeline and diverters.

THE PROJECT WAS COMPLETED ON SCHEDULE, WITHIN BUDGET, AND MET ALL QUALITY EXPECTATIONS
